A. GENERAL INFORMATION
1. WHAT IS CO-OP?
The YTÜ CO-OP Model (CO-OP Cooperative Education), implemented as part of Vocational Training in the workplace, is an innovative reimagining of the traditional internship. Often confused with an internship, the CO-OP program aims to foster collaboration between universities and the business world. It is important to note that while internships are mandatory in certain programs, participation in the CO-OP program is voluntary.
The university introduces students interested in participating in the CO-OP program to employers in suitable sectors. The employer then begins preparing the student, who meets the required qualifications, for the professional world during the CO-OP Education period. Furthermore, according to research, universities that implement the KOOP Education program show an increase in their preference rates in subsequent years. In summary, the goal of KOOP is to strengthen the bond between the university and the business world by internalizing it in a more organic way.

B. 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR SPRING SEMESTER COOP PROCESS
The implementation of the On-the-Job Training process generally consists of the following stages:
- Collection of term-specific information from businesses with a KOOP protocol.
- Sharing company quota and other KOOP information with students and the student KOOP application process.
- Evaluation of applications and announcement of results.
- Collecting preferences from accepted students and conducting student-company interviews.
- The student-company matching process, announcement of results, and company acceptance.
- Students must submit their acceptance documents via email to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Internship Office for SGK procedures, after which the Internship Office will complete their SGK registrations.
- Course registration and the KOOP training process
- Evaluation of the KOOP Training and determination of letter grades
These processes are explained below:
1. KOOP CALENDAR 2025
Students participating in the KOOP Training Model must carefully adhere to the published calendar to ensure they can properly track the process. You can view the workflow related to the KOOP Training process at the link below.
2. PARTNER COMPANIES WHERE KOOP TRAINING WILL BE CONDUCTED AND THEIR QUOTAS
You can access the number of student quotas for training at each company and other company information by logging in to the YTÜ Career Portal via the link provided below.

3. KOOP (ON-THE-JOB VOCATIONAL TRAINING) APPLICATION AND EVALUATION
Students wishing to participate in the YTÜ KOOP Model training program must submit their preliminary applications via the YTÜ Career Portal starting at 10:00 AM on January 27, 2025, and continuing until 3:00 PM on February 4, 2025. The list of accepted students will be announced by 12:00 a.m. on February 4, 2025.
Students eligible to make selections must complete their selection process via the YTÜ Career Portal between 9:00 AM and 12:00 AM on February 5, 2025.
Companies may conduct interviews with students who have selected them between February 6 and 8, 2025. Interviews may be conducted online or in person, depending on the company.
Once the interviews and selection process are complete, the results will be announced on February 9, 2025.
4. ANNOUNCEMENT OF APPLICATION EVALUATION RESULTS
Company placement results will be announced via the YTÜ Career Portal.
Students who have been matched with a company must contact the relevant company representative without delay. After receiving acceptance, it is of the utmost importance that the relevant company representative approve and upload “FORM 1: Applied Education Acceptance Form” to the system so that SGK procedures can be completed in full. A copy of FORM 1: Practical Training Acceptance Form must also be submitted via email to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Internship Office along with the other application documents listed below.
5. SUBMISSION OF KOOP APPLICATION DOCUMENTS AND SGK PROCEDURES
Students whose names appear on the list must contact the KOOP Coordinator at their assigned company to have the “FORM 1: Applied Training Acceptance Form” to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Internship Office by February 17, 2025, along with the other KOOP application documents, via email to mkf.koop.sgk@gmail.com. If the required documents are not submitted or the specified schedule is not followed, SGK procedures cannot be completed; therefore, students in this situation will be considered to have waived their right to KOOP training. It is mandatory for students to be insured for the duration of their vocational training at the company.
The link below provides the KOOP SGK application form and the required documents for the application via email. It is the student’s responsibility to submit the application documents in the required format and within the specified timeframe.
For students whose KOOP SGK application is approved, the SGK Employment Registration Form (SGK insurance enrollment) will be prepared by the Faculty. Students will be able to obtain the SGK Employment Registration Form from the e-Government portal on February 17, 2025. The link below provides a step-by-step visual guide on how to view the SGK Employment Registration Form on the e-Government portal. This guide was created using the e-Government mobile app.

C KOOP EDUCATION PROCESS
The KOOP training takes place during the Spring semester of each academic year, for 14 weeks, 5 days a week during business hours, under the responsibility of company managers and the supervision of training staff designated by the company, based on the principle that KOOP students perform the defined tasks and duties. This enables students to complete their engineering education through hands-on experience within the actual work environment of a company. The key points students should note during the KOOP training process are summarized below:
The KOOP program does not begin with the receipt of an acceptance form from the company. It begins with the submission of this form to the relevant department and the Faculty Internship Office, and the creation of a Social Security Institution (SGK) registration. Therefore, students who receive an acceptance form from a company must ensure that their SGK registration has been completed before beginning their training at the company.
The KOOP program consists of 14 weeks of continuous, hands-on work at the company, five days a week.
Students participating in KOOP must structure their Spring semester course schedules in accordance with the above provision.
The YTÜ KOOP guidelines, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering’s Implementation Principles, and the protocols signed with the companies must be read and understood thoroughly, and the principles defined therein must be strictly adhered to.
Particular attention must be paid to complying with the attendance criteria defined by the company in the protocol.
Special attention must be paid to the companies’ confidentiality policies. Provisions regarding confidentiality in the protocols must be carefully reviewed.
Students must register for the “Vocational Training at a Company” courses defined by their departments before beginning vocational training at companies.
“Vocational Training at a Company” courses cover the activities to be carried out at the companies. Students submit a work report describing their activities at the company to the course instructor designated by the university on a weekly or monthly basis. Whether reports are submitted weekly or monthly is at the discretion of the course instructor.
Instructors for the “On-the-Job Training” courses may monitor students’ activities by visiting the workplace or through online meetings.
At the end of the 14-week spring semester, all work completed by students is presented during the first week of the final exam period in a setting attended by the instructor of the On-the-Job Training course and the company’s training staff (either in person or online).
The percentage weighting applied in the evaluation of on-the-job vocational training is defined as 40% for the course instructor and 60% for the company’s training staff. The company’s training staff evaluates students based on their work performance at the company and their end-of-term presentation. The instructor of the On-the-Job Training course, on the other hand, conducts their evaluation by considering weekly/monthly reports and the end-of-term presentation.
Following the evaluation, the letter grades for the “On-the-Job Vocational Training” courses are posted on the OBS system.
